QuinStar was founded in March 1993 by seasoned aerospace engineering managers. We have grown our business by servicing the needs of customers in the millimeter-wave and microwave sensing and communication fields. To achieve our Vision, we are strategically increasing our footprint in the industry, acquiring businesses that strengthen and expand our vertically integrated business model.
We acquired DCL Inc., a local electronic engineering firm, in 1996.
In 1997, we acquired CERNEX Inc., a microwave amplifiers company in Sunnyvale, CA. We continued operations on site as QuinStar Technology, Sunnyvale Division. In 2000, we moved this division to our Torrance location.
QuinStar acquired the manufacturing rights and all equipment and inventory of the Silicon IMPATT diode product line from Raytheon in 1998. The technology was developed for satellite communications and missile seekers in the mid-70s to 80s by Hughes Aircraft Company and later acquired by Raytheon. This was the foundation of our IMPATT amplifier and oscillator business. Today, QuinStar is the only commercial Silicon IMPATT diodes supplier in America.
In 2002, we purchased all assets of Millimeter Products, Inc. (MPI), a millimeter-wave components company in New Hampshire. The company was moved to our 44,0000 sq. ft. Torrance facility in 2003. This purchase expanded our waveguide and test components products similar to the Alpha/TRG product line.
We expanded into the cryogenic amplifier business in 2004 with the acquisition of Berkshire Technologies, Inc. This acquisition further supports our scientific research customers.
Quinstar acquired PAMTECH’s assets and agreed to continue company operations. In April 2010, we moved PAMTECH’s operation to our Torrance location. We continue to provide innovative and superior passive microwave products.
The acquisitions of Berkshire Technology and PAMTECH provide us with the unique ability to offer cryogenic products to the radio astronomy science and quantum computing research fields.
In early 2012, QuinStar began a two-phase expansion and facility upgrade. Now complete, QuinStar’s facilities total 65,000 sq. ft. of workspace spanning two buildings.
To enhance our technical capacity, we have significantly upgraded our near-field range, environmental test facility, and our machining capabilities. Our latest equipment upgrades include a wafer-probe station and network analyzer enabling us to probe test MMICs over the frequency range of 7KHz to 145 GHz in one sweep and an automated inspection microscope with CMM providing 3D measurement on complex geometrics.
