In 1952, our friend and colleague, William Tap Lum, entered UC Berkeley to study the science closest to his heart—astronomy. He never left the UCB Radio Astronomy Laboratory, continuing to work part time even after “retiring” in 1994. In sum, Tap’s lifetime contributions to the field are immeasurable.
To honor and remember Tap, QuinStar has donated a $10,000 stipend to UCB for a graduate student in astronomy. We can think of no better way to remember our friend than to support a graduate student who shares William Tap Lum’s passion for the awesomeness and beauty of the universe.
